Miami's Sun Is Beautiful.
What It Does to Your Skin, Less So.

South Florida has some of the highest UV index readings in the entire country — regularly reaching 11 or higher, classified as Extreme. For skin prone to pigmentation, every day without the right protection — and the right treatment — is a day the problem deepens. Melasma triggered by Miami's sun and heat is one of the most common concerns we treat at Medilight.

We understand what you're going through

Melasma Is More Than
a Cosmetic Concern.

If you've been struggling with dark spots or melasma, you already know — it's not just about how you look. It's about how you feel walking into a room without makeup. It's about the photos you avoid. It's about trying product after product and watching the spots come back.

Melasma and hyperpigmentation are among the most emotionally charged skin conditions we treat. Unlike acne or aging, pigmentation is invisible to others until it isn't — and once it appears, it becomes all you see in the mirror.

"I've had melasma for years. I've tried the creams, the peels, even the laser at another clinic. It always comes back."

We hear this constantly. And the frustrating truth is: they're right — if the treatment doesn't address the root triggers, pigmentation will return. That's why at Medilight, we don't just treat the spot. We treat the skin condition driving it.

Melasma has hormonal, environmental, and genetic drivers. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (the dark marks left after a breakout or injury) has different mechanisms. Sun spots accumulate from years of UV exposure. Each requires a different strategy — and all of them require commitment to a protocol, not a single product or session.

  • Melasma

Triggered by hormones (pregnancy, birth control), UV exposure, and heat. Appears as symmetrical brown or grayish patches, most often on the upper lip, cheeks, and forehead.

  • Sun Spots & Age Spots

Flat brown spots that accumulate from years of UV exposure. Extremely common in Miami residents who spend time outdoors — even with regular sunscreen use.

  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Dark marks left behind after acne, irritation, or skin injury. More prominent in medium to deep skin tones, and can persist for months without targeted treatment.

  • Uneven Skin Tone

A general dullness or patchiness that makes skin look tired and aged — often the result of accumulated sun damage and a compromised skin barrier.

Not sure which type of pigmentation you have? That's exactly what our skin assessment is for.

Why it keeps coming back

What's Actually Driving
Your Dark Spots

Most treatments fail because they address the pigment — not the trigger. Understanding what's causing your pigmentation is the first step to making it stop returning.

01
UV Exposure

The primary accelerator of all pigmentation types. In Miami's climate, even routine outdoor time activates melanin production — especially in skin that's already sensitized.

02
Hormonal Fluctuations

Estrogen and progesterone directly stimulate melanocyte activity. Pregnancy, birth control, and hormonal imbalances can trigger melasma — and sustain it for years.

03
Inflammation

Any trauma to the skin — acne, waxing, aggressive treatments — can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially in medium and deeper skin tones.

04
Wrong Products

Over-the-counter brightening creams often irritate the skin barrier, which paradoxically worsens pigmentation. Medical-grade formulations work differently — and safely.

Where every plan begins

The Facial Assessment —
Your Skin's Starting Point

Before we recommend any treatment, we need to see what's actually happening beneath your skin. That starts with a professional evaluation — no guesswork, no generic protocols.

What to expect from your
Facial Skin Assessment.

A personalized session with your specialist — guided by technology, driven by your specific concern. Every plan is built from what we discover here.

🔬
Advanced Skin Analysis

We use a facial scanner to read beyond what the eye can see — pigmentation depth, skin type, UV damage, texture, and hydration levels. This data is what separates a real plan from a generic recommendation.

🗂
Custom Treatment Plan

Based on your evaluation, your specialist designs a plan tailored to your pigmentation type, skin tone, lifestyle, and goals. No two plans are the same — because no two skins are the same.

🔄
Ongoing Re-Evaluations

Your plan isn't fixed. At each visit, we check in, track your progress, and adjust the protocol as your skin responds. Pigmentation treatment is a conversation — not a one-time prescription.

Medilight exclusive protocols

The Treatments
That May Be Part of Your Plan

After your facial assessment, your specialist will determine which combination of protocols best addresses your specific pigmentation. These are the tools we work with — each one selected and dosed for your skin, never applied generically.

Which protocols you receive, and in what sequence, will be decided by your specialist based on your evaluation.

Clinical Facial
Facial Signature

Our signature medical facial deeply cleanses the skin, removes dead cells, and restores the skin barrier — creating the ideal condition for any pigmentation treatment that follows. It also addresses surface-level discoloration through targeted brightening actives and controlled exfoliation, leaving skin visibly clearer and more receptive.

Ideal for · All pigmentation types as part of a plan
Resurfacing
Medical Chemical Peel

Medical-grade chemical peels use carefully selected acid blends to lift accumulated pigment, accelerate cell turnover, and even skin tone. The type of peel, its concentration, and the number of passes are all determined by your specialist based on your skin's depth of pigmentation and tolerance. Results build progressively across sessions.

Ideal for · Sun spots, uneven tone, post-acne marks
Light Technology
IPL — Intense Pulsed Light

IPL delivers precise pulses of broad-spectrum light that target melanin deposits — breaking them apart so the body can naturally eliminate them. It's one of the most effective technologies for surface sun damage and age spots, and it works simultaneously on redness and vascular discoloration. Recommended for light to medium skin tones; candidacy is confirmed at evaluation.

Ideal for · Sun spots, age spots, redness, surface pigment
Laser Precision
Laser Treatment

For pigmentation that lives deeper in the skin — including resistant melasma, dermal pigment, and stubborn sun damage — laser technology reaches below the epidermis without disrupting the surrounding tissue. It also stimulates collagen production, improving overall skin quality alongside pigmentation correction. Settings and wavelengths are calibrated to your skin tone.

Ideal for · Deep melasma, resistant pigmentation, all tones
✦ Exclusive Protocol
Signature Combination Protocol
Smooth Glow
IPL · Chemical Peel · RF Microneedling — in one session

Smooth Glow is Medilight's most comprehensive pigmentation protocol. When your specialist determines that a combined approach will produce superior results, this is the treatment that changes everything. It integrates three modalities in a single coordinated session — each building on the effect of the last.

The result isn't just spot reduction. It's a visible transformation in overall skin tone, luminosity, and quality — one that continues to improve over the weeks following treatment as the skin rebuilds from within.

01
IPL Pass

Targets and fragments melanin deposits at the surface and mid-dermis, preparing pigment for removal.

02
Calibrated Peel

Removes the treated pigmented cells and resurfaces the skin for a cleaner, brighter, more uniform tone.

03
RF Microneedling

Stimulates deep collagen production, refines pores, and ensures improvements continue long after the session.

Candidacy confirmed at evaluation
Your specialist will determine if Smooth Glow is right for your skin type and pigmentation profile.
Your skin's journey

What Real Results
Look Like Over Time

Pigmentation doesn't disappear overnight — but with the right protocol, you'll feel the difference well before the end of your plan.

manchas-steps
Weeks 1–2
Skin Feels Different

After your initial sessions, pores feel cleaner, texture begins to smooth, and skin looks healthier overall. The foundation is being set. Some patients notice initial brightening in the first two weeks after a peel or IPL session.

Weeks 4–6
Visible Fading Begins

Dark spots start to lighten noticeably. Melasma patches begin to lose their intensity. Skin tone becomes more uniform. This is the phase where most patients first say — "I can actually see a difference."

Months 3–6
Lasting Luminosity

With the full protocol completed and your maintenance routine in place, skin tone is significantly more even, spots have faded, and your complexion has a quality of natural radiance that no foundation can replicate.

The real answers

Questions We Hear
Every Day

No sugarcoating. Here's what you actually need to know before starting your pigmentation treatment.

Can melasma be permanently cured? +
Melasma is a chronic condition — there is no permanent cure because the triggers (hormones, UV) don't disappear. However, with the right treatment protocol and a consistent maintenance routine, melasma can be kept under excellent control with skin that looks clear and even. The goal is long-term management, not a one-time fix. Patients who commit to their maintenance plan maintain their results for years.
Is IPL safe for darker skin tones? +
IPL requires careful calibration for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick types IV–VI). At Medilight, we assess your skin type precisely and adjust our protocols accordingly. For deeper tones, we may combine or substitute with laser technologies or peel-based approaches that are better suited — ensuring you get excellent results safely. We treat all skin tones.
How many sessions will I need? +
It depends entirely on your pigmentation type, depth, and skin tone. A Facial Signature or peel series may show results in 3–6 sessions. IPL typically requires 3–5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. The Smooth Glow protocol is generally recommended as a series of 3, with maintenance sessions every 3–4 months. Your specialist will outline a realistic timeline at your evaluation.
Why do my spots keep coming back after treatments elsewhere? +
Recurrence is the most frustrating part of pigmentation treatment — and it's usually because the treatment addressed the pigment without addressing the trigger. If you're still getting UV exposure, experiencing hormonal fluctuations, or using products that irritate your skin barrier, pigmentation will return regardless of how good the treatment was. A complete plan includes trigger management, medical-grade home care, and sun protection as non-negotiable components.
Do I need to avoid the sun completely during treatment? +
In Miami? We know that's not realistic. What we require is daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ applied every morning (and reapplied if you're outdoors), a wide-brimmed hat for extended outdoor exposure, and avoiding intentional sun exposure — like tanning or beach days — during the active treatment phase. We'll give you a complete, practical sun protection protocol that works with your lifestyle.
What makes Smooth Glow different from a regular IPL or peel? +
A standalone IPL or peel treats one layer or one mechanism. Smooth Glow combines three: IPL breaks down the pigment, the peel removes it from the surface, and RF microneedling rebuilds the skin from beneath — all in one coordinated session. The result is faster, more comprehensive, and longer-lasting than any single modality. It's designed for patients who want real results, not incremental improvement.

What our patients say

Real Stories.
Real Skin.

These are patients who came to us frustrated — having tried products, other clinics, home treatments. Here's what happened when they followed a real plan.

★★★★★

"I had melasma for three years after my pregnancy. I tried everything — creams, facials, even a laser at another place. At Medilight they actually took the time to explain what was happening in my skin and why it kept coming back. After two months of treatment I can go out without foundation for the first time in years."

Valentina R. — Doral, FL
★★★★★

"The Smooth Glow protocol changed my skin completely. I had sun spots all over my cheeks from years in Miami. Three sessions in and my husband literally said 'your skin looks like it did when we met.' I don't think I'll ever go anywhere else."

Carolina M. — Coral Gables, FL
★★★★★

"The attention here is incredible. They actually looked at my skin with their scanner before recommending anything. I have a darker skin tone and I was nervous about IPL — they adapted everything for me. Four sessions later, my skin tone is the most even it's ever been."
