Open Pores: Why Do They Occur?

Adolescence, hormonal changes, acne, heat, humidity, medications, and others can be the cause of those annoying open pores; but the main reason for this is the excess of sebum on the skin.

Let’s start with the basics. Pores are small openings found in the upper area of hair follicles, and there are two types. Those that release sweat and those that protect the skin by secreting sebum, so when we talk about dilated pores, this is not linked to a medical problem but to the uncomfortable aesthetic effect it can cause. And although normally their size is determined by genetics, photoaging, oily skin, and/or the factors mentioned earlier can cause them to appear more open.

Open Pores

Although we can conceal dilated pores with makeup, the main recommendation in this case would be to clean and remove makeup well before going to bed so that the skin can breathe. It is also advisable to hydrate the skin frequently, exfoliate with products containing citric acid, retinoids, glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid at least once a week, apply masks, and perform deep facial cleansing regularly with your specialist.

Among Medilight’s facial treatments for these cases, after deep cleansing, we include treatment with blue LED light, laser, or microneedling treatment such as Dermapen, which can be combined with plasma, vitamins, or others that help reduce pores and create that peach skin effect.

Remember that at Medilight, we have a Facial Scanner that provides a complete diagnosis of your skin, allowing us to establish a personalized treatment for you. We are located at: 7910 NW 25th St Suite 202 Doral 33122.
